Spring Wedding Invitations – Ideas and Inspiration

So the date for ‘That Wedding’ has finally been announced! Yes, Kate Middleton and Prince William are heading for a Spring wedding on 29^th April 2011. We thought we’d banish the cold winter blues and get all our brides and grooms in the Spring Wedding mood with a celebration of Spring colours and ideas. The onset of spring means that you are spoilt for choice with wonderful flower options – but before you set your heart on having armfuls of daffodils , tulips, daisies or peonies, check with your florist that they will be available on your chosen date as some flowers are only in season for a very short time.

With more seasonal flowers becoming available, Spring is a great time to use softer colours in pastel shades and softer hues – like yellow, baby blue, green, pinks and lavender. We love the following colour combinations:

Preppy pink and mint green – this color combination couldn’t be more spring-like, and is perfect for a beautiful, fresh spring wedding

Petal pink or baby blue with chocolate accents – lovely for a chocolate Easter theme!

Blue and white – a classic, fresh colour combination

Green and ivory – Softer greens like sage green or mint

Lavender and Yellow

When it comes to wedding invitations for a Spring wedding, flowers and floral patterns are the most popular but butterflies and birds can also add a Spring-like feel. Design of the Week: Winter Snowflake Wedding Invitation

The weather may be warm and sunny outside but if you are getting married this winter, you probably need to start thinking about the sort of winter wedding invitations you are going to send to your guests. This week we are thrilled to show you a beautiful winter wedding design by Bee Happy Designs.

The linear snowflake invitation is created on a pale ivory sparkle card, 144x144mm. It has a beautiful snowflake image printed onto the card and is finished with a silver vertical line threaded with a co-ordinating coloured beads. This design is available in a blue/green colourway and a in a purple/pink colourway. Design of the Week: Entwine Design Bespoke Photo invitation

We just LOVE the idea behind this week’s design of the week by one of our wonderful design studios – Entwine Design. Their ‘Sparkle Belaggio’ design was created for a couple where the groom proposed at the Belaggio Fountains in Las Vegas. Gail over at Entwine Design can take a favourite location photo and turn it into your invitation, it could be the place you were engaged or first met or your church or reception venue.

The design is completely bespoke and is not limited to venues, any photo showing your theme or interest can be turned into your wedding stationery – the ideas are endless. Either send Gail your own photo or let her know what your image theme is and she will find a photo to turn into beautiful wedding stationery. Unique Save the Date Idea – Hollywood Style!

Oh, I’m thrilled to show off this fantastic idea for a truly unique wedding invitation idea – a Save the Date card that simply oozes Hollywood Chic! Movie buffs everywhere will love this super stylish idea from husband and wife photographers, Michelle Ferry and Josh Beller of Mi Belle in the USA. Samantha and Shane, the bride and groom, had these photos specially commisioned by their wedding photographers, Mi Belle to go the extra mile and completely set the mood for a fabulous celebration. In case you think that the name of the bride and groom have been superimposed, think again – they actually had the movie sign custom set to announce their date! Now that’s what I call going the extra mile for your wedding invitations …. Simply fabulous!

A unique ‘icy’ Wedding Invitation Idea

We LOVE receiving great, unique wedding invitation ideas here at the WIS, so when James from the marketing and design company Beanwave left a comment on our site I just couldn’t resist sharing his ‘icy’ design for a truly unique wedding invitation. This is what James had to say about a rather unusual design request – for his own wedding! ♥

From James at Beanswave:“Wedding invites are not something Beanwave have been asked to do before, but when the brief was “we’re getting married… in the Ice Hotel in Swedish Lapland… there’s also a second reception/party in England a week later for those that can’t make it to the Arctic Circle… we need invites… and they can be as creative as you like”, then that’s the kind of job that gets the juices flowing at beanwave. And the client? Well that was me and the soon-to-be Mrs Bristow, so they had to be good.

An invitation to any event should set the tone and give recipients a sense of anticipation and excitement. Our idea? Let’s create an invite that reflects a ‘wedding of two halves’, and post it in a box of snow. Simple.

So in October 2009 each of our guests received a box through the post. The outside address label contained the quote:

“A snowflake is one of nature’s most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together”

Upon opening the box, each recipient received an avalanche of snow-like polystyrene balls over-spilling from the box. Then inside, under the ‘snow’, they found an invitation card with a photo of a heart carved from ice.

On first opening, the card revealed two sides – one for the Ice Hotel Wedding the other for the Woburn reception. The card then opened out again to reveal a montage of bride and groom photos from childhood through the years.

The other detail was using appropriate lyrics from Beatles songs. These were subtly printed on the cards using spot varnish so they could only be seen when light catches at the right angle. The reason for this was that we had booked a Beatles tribute band for the reception, but wanted to keep them as a surprise. (This theme was also carried through to the reception where the table names were Eleanor, Sadie, Rita, Lucy, Prudence & Martha!)

Although they cursed us when still finding little balls of snow for weeks later, the reaction was great, recipients really loved this unusual, modern wedding invite. Both days were fantastic occasions, the Ice Hotel was an amazing place, and the Upbeat Beatles were a massive hit. Happy days indeed.”
